What the hell does that mean?

My fiance handed me a card to sign this weekend, and when I looked down to sign it I spied a smiley face. Yep, she drew a smiley face next to her signature. Does that mean I have to draw a super hero or something next to my name? You’ll be happy to know I made men everywhere proud and just signed by name. But it got me thinking about all the “cute” things like that women put when they are writing in letters or emails. By now most of us guys have figured out this -à : ) (if you look at it with a crooked neck) means a smile in an email. Most of the other “faces” you can figure out by looking at it with a crooked neck…and even if you don’t figure it out chances are she isn’t going to drill you on if you understood what all the “faces” in her last email meant (if you get a girl like this, run!). But what about all those letter combinations they use? Now those can be tricky! And sometimes those can mean something you should know about. So, here is a list of some of the more common acronyms used in emails and profiles. Think of it as your cheat sheet.

BBW = Big Beautiful Woman (translation, FAT)

HWP = Height Weight Proportionate ( translation, don’t be fat)

TTYL = Talk to You Later

BRB = Be Right Back

LOL = Laughing Out Loud

LMAO = Laughing My Ass Off

ROFL = Rolling On the Floor Laughing

GF = Girlfriend

BF = Boyfriend

FWB = Friends with Benefits

NSA = No Strings Attached

Never turn down a “helping hand”!

Guys, never turn down a “helping hand!” Now, while hand jobs were the stuff wet dreams were made of as preteens, I’m going to admit with nearly two decades of practice under my belt I’m looking for a little bit more than just a helping hand. But what I’m talking about today is a helping hand to get you the helping hand (or more than a helping hand). Now don’t get lost in the last sentence, stick with me. Today I’m bringing you information on how to get online dating sites to do the work for you so you can sit back and enjoy the rewards.

Ok, so quick review in guys rule online dating 101…make sure you’re on the right site for what you’re looking for. Want nsa sex? Don’t sign up as a member for an online site that is attracting people interested in long-term relationships. If you didn’t read the last blog, you can go back and read at your leisure. It will save you time and money. Now that you’re on the right site, let me share a little bit of what happened to me in the past… In the beginning, I tended to find myself a bit “visually distracted.” We’re guys! We’re visual! The problem was, I was sidetracked by the pics and I skimmed the written parts. So I had some hot dates with nothing in common. I found out I personally had more luck with sites that helped me out in the finding women department. That probably doesn’t sound good…this is what I mean…some sites ask you questions up front to see what you’re looking for and then THEY search through all the users to find potential dates that match what you’re looking for instead of you trying to search hundreds of profiles looking for someone and trying not to go blind at the same time.

This site is new: Chemistry.com They not only ask you ?s up front, and then send potential dates to your inbox daily (they match by compatibility and passion). You get to give feedback to them (the site) on the people they’re sending you. They constantly update what you’re looking for until everyone they’re sending you is exactly what you’re looking for. We know several friends who are using this site and really liking it.

That site wasn’t around when I met my fiance. We met here: Match.com another site that matches people based on what they’re looking for. Like I said, it was nice for me to have a little help having other people doing the looking through all the profiles for me.Take advantage of these sites! Half the work is sorting through the profiles. Let them do it for you, and then you just have to work on making a good first impression (don’t worry, we’ll go into that too) with your emails.

Frustrated with Online Dating? Are you on the Right Dating Site?

Ok, yesterday I spent a little bit of time surfing around on Yahoo! answers . A lot of the questions were from guys, and a lot of them were related to the same issue (though the guys didn’t realize it). One of the keys to online dating success is to make sure you are on the right online dating site! What does that mean? It means make sure the site you’re signed up with has what you’re looking for. Are you interested in casual dating? Looking for more of a long term relationship? You want to be on a site that is attracting the type of people looking for the same thing you are. Now I know this seems stupid simple, but it isn’t always something people understand right away when they jump into the online dating scene (especially if you got sucked in by the hot girl ad…see previous blog).

So, if you are on a site geared towards nsa (no strings attached) sex and/or casual dating, and you’re looking for a long-term relationship you’re going to feel like you’re constantly spinning your wheels, never moving forward, and never meeting anyone that does anything for you. But, if you’re signed up on a site geared towards longer term relationships, you’re going to find other people on there with the same goal in mind and you’ll have more things in common. See how this works?

You can usually tell by the homepage (way before you do any signing up) what the site is geared towards. If there are any pics of women in lingerie, or “come fuck me” eyes . . . leaning towards the nsa sex/hook-up/casual dating type of dating site. If the homepage talks about love, meeting your “match,” or “soulmates” it is in the long term relationship, seeking a deep/intimate connection type of a dating site.

So, if you read this and realize you’re on the wrong dating site for what you’re looking for stop spinning your wheels! Start looking around for other online dating sites offering what you want, and try out one of those.

Blame it on the Hot Girl

Guys get into the online dating world completely different than women. Sometimes it happens before we realize it. Here is what I’m talking about:

I’m checking my email (yahoo, hotmail, whatever) and next to my email is an ad with the hottest girl. The “10” girl. It says she is in my area and waiting to meet me. This is perfect! By now, all logic is lost, and I really want to meet the “10” girl too. All I have to do is “click here.” I click and in my “10’ girl daze” before I know it, I’m officially a new member of hot girl’s online dating site. Now what? I can either kick myself in the ass for being an idiot or I can look around for hot girl (and friends!). Now you can shake your head here, but you know if you have the choice between searching for hot girl or getting up and giving yourself a talking to. . . the only reason to give up is to get another beer before you search for hot girl.

Right here, one of two things are going to happen. One. . . the dating site will let you look around some, searching for hot girl and friends (you may even find one) to get you hooked before telling you to pay up if you want to have any more fun. Two . . . the very moment you try and search for hot girl they will tell you to pay up if you want to have any fun. Either way, all roads that lead to hot girl (and friends) are going to cost us some money (starting to sound like a regular bar/club scene, right?). So how do you know if the site is worth the money they’re asking you to pay?

Unless you’re rich (and if you were rich you would be flaunting your money offline, and women would be falling over themselves for it already) you don’t want to be paying at every online dating site showcasing a hot girl in your area. Part of picking the right website depends on what you’re looking for (not just the hot girl, but just sex, casual dating, relationship, you have no freakin’ clue, etc.), but we’ll go into that more later. If hot girl and her ad have already sucked you into becoming a free member on the site, take advantage of everything the site will let you do for free. Chat rooms aren’t usually my thing, but they do give you a good opportunity to get other member’s feedback on the site. What do they like/hate about the site? Have they met/had any success from the site? You can also get the same feedback chatting with people if the site has their own instant messenger (don’t give your personal instant messenger id out right away…girls that usually ask for this in the first few minutes are more than likely spam). If you like the site from what you’re able to see, and the feedback from other members is good you can always try it out for one month. Membership rates vary a lot depending on all the services a site offers to its members. If you’re not loving the idea of plopping down money for an online dating site, just think of it as a cost and recoup your costs doing the same thing I’ve done a few times…

I haven’t shared this with the fiancé yet, so let’s keep this just between the guys. I figured since I was taking a hit with the cost of the online dating scene (membership fee) then I would take a break spending in the bar/club dating scene (and recoup costs). Very serious business lesson about to happen here. Think of all the time and money you spend on women in your average night out at the bar/club with the guys. So I stopped spending money on women in those situations. I didn’t send over drinks, offer to refill hot girl’s drink, or buy their next round. I wasn’t an asshole about it (a key both offline and online). I still flirted and joked, I just didn’t go to any extra steps or take any extra time (and I didn’t have that “desperate” vibe because I was already planning my moves in a new dating scene). Are you ready for this? You know the sayings about girls wanting a “bad boy?” I got more attention not going the extra mile offline, all the while I was getting more online because I was willing to pay the cost to become a member. Unfortunately, the women you attract with the “bad boy” vibe still drive you to want to look elsewhere for women. As I started learning how to get better results online, the “bad boy” bar stuff was just a nice way to recoup my costs—and frankly, not worry about trying so hard. Have similar stories?

I’ve been there. Where you are right now? Yeah, I’ve been there. Not too long ago, actually. I love to go out and have a good time. I got some girls phone numbers while I was doing it, but the chase started to lose a little bit of the thrill when I realized the women I was chasing weren’t that awesome of catches (if you’re nodding here, we’ve been in the same nightclub situation). So, I decided to try the online scene. I ended up trying multiple online dating sites (women window shop, we check out different online dating sites). Along the way I learned a ton! I actually did meet a fantastic woman online. She is amazing (don’t worry I’m not one of those guys). But I had to do a ton of trial and error BS to find her, and so I decided to share what I learned with you guys. Did you know that women talk about this stuff all the time? They’ve definitely got the upper leg on the whole online dating scene! So, here is your chance, I’ll share all the stuff I learned. It is a blog, so nobody knows you and you don’t even have to share your email to get the good stuff. In return, you have to promise to pass this information on! I wish someone had told me half the information I know now, when I started out trying to find women online. I could have spotted the fakes and scams early on (don’t worry, that will be one of the first things we talk about) and all kinds of other fun stuff.
